Got Any Summer Plans?

Yes, I do. A lot – just not in the way you might think.

I’m excited/relieved/nervous to say – I have nailed down my schedule for the upcoming summer. The end of the spring semester is quickly approach (yikes) and I will be spending the summer following my junior of college working full time between three (three!?) different positions. As I forewarned at the beginning, it’s a lot.

Like I said in my Spring Break Updates post, I will be serving as a public relations intern at HWC Engineering this summer. I have also recently accepted a second internship. I will be the summer 2018 Marketing Intern for Indiana INTERNnet, an online service that helps connects Indiana employers with college interns. I’m super happy about the opportunity to work for an organization that has helped me find and apply to many internship opportunities in the last year. I have accomplished some great things and added awesome experiences to my resume through the Indiana INTERNnet database, so I’m eager for the opportunity to help other students do the same by promoting the organization’s website and upcoming events.

The third position I will be holding over the summer will be in the IUPUI Multicultural Center, helping promote the center and my scholarship program, Social Justice Scholars, to incoming freshmen as they attend their orientation session. Yet again, this will be a opportunity for me to pass along information about the experiences I’ve had to other students! My involvement with Social Justice Education has helped me grow personally and professionally, and I am passionate about encouraging these incoming students to get involved.

Every summer orientation session rounds out the first-year students’ first day on campus with JagBlast, a miniature party and resource fair in the Campus Center. Following my freshman year, I regularly tabled at JagBlast as part of my position with the IUPUI Weeks of Welcome Steering Committee. Here I am again, a full two years later, about to spend another summer trying to get new Jaguars to see the benefits of on-campus involvement (#throwback).

I am a little nervous about juggling these three positions, only because it will be my first time officially working full-time. However, I’ve spent the last two and a half years working part-time while also taking a full class-load. So, I know I can handle it. I probably end up working much more than 40 hours per week during the spring and fall semesters. If anything, this will be less stressful because I won’t have to worry about bringing this type of work home with me!

That being said, I’m currently facing an onslaught of final projects and presentations which all need to be completed in the next three weeks. So, even though I am definitively looking forward to this summer – I don’t have much time to think about it right now! I just wanted to make a quick update here to document my acceptance of these awesome opportunities.
